ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Marine Engineering was established in 2008 and began operations within the Faculty of Naval Architecture and Maritime Sciences in the 2009–2010 academic year with 50 students. The objective of the Marine Engineering Program at Yildiz Technical University is to train qualified marine engineers to meet the needs of both Turkey’s and the world’s merchant fleets.

Students are also offered the opportunity to pursue a double major with other undergraduate programs at our university. Provided that the course content and credit value are appropriate, students may also take courses from different departments. At least 30% of the courses are taught in English. A key feature of the Marine Engineering Program is that a significant portion of the education is practice-oriented. Teaching and learning activities are conducted at Yildiz Technical University’s main (Yildiz) campus in Beşiktaş, Istanbul.
